Vanessa Serroul is an artist from Xwísten, one of 11 communities that make up the St'át'imc Nation. Since 2001, Vanessa has lived in the Máthxwi community raising her family and creating artwork. Both communities are located along the Sát̓atqwa7 / Stó:lō "River" and serves as a connection to where she grew up and where she now calls home.
Vanessa’s artistic style uses a variety of mediums and canvases in an innovative and modern take on Salishan art, gaining inspiration from her surroundings in nature and incorporating her cultural teachings and language into her art pieces while raising awareness about the environment and the impact that climate change has made to the land, waters and the traditional ways of those who have lived on these lands since time immemorial.
