This initiative was an exhibition of artworks in a gallery style setup with canvas paintings created by Artists from First Nation communities along the Fraser River and its tributaries. This event took place on the unceded and traditional lands of the Semá:th people on August 24th and 25th, 2024.
Featured Visionary Artists:
Michael Serroul and Bobbilee Copeland are both Visionary Artists from the T'it'q'et First Nation and Vanessa Serroul, the Lead Visionary of this initiative, is a member of Xwísten but has lived within the Máthxwi community since 2001.
Five 20" x20" canvas paintings were created to explore the artist’s visual interpretations of how they view the environment around them and the issues that impact their communities, traditions and culture as well as what kind of changes they would like to see made for our watersheds and what we can do to help raise awareness on the need to conserve our rivers, lakes, oceans and the surrounding habitats for our future generations.
Raphael Silver, a Semá:th member, painted a canvas previous to the event and brought it to present and display upon request as it was one of the pieces that inspired this art exhibition. A special thanks goes to Raphael and the community of Semá:th for hosting us.
